Product Overview
The TORLEO TOP-5879F1-C45GF-RSB is a single-acting intelligent (digital micro-processor) electro-pneumatic valve positioner for
Rotary (angular-stroke) valves, travel 0–120°, in a 316 stainless
steel split body. Its split (remote-mount) architecture lets the
positioner body be mounted away from a hot valve body, cutting heat
transfer in high-temperature service. A single controlled pneumatic
output drives a single-acting (spring-return) actuator, with the
return spring providing the reverse stroke. On loss of power or
signal the valve holds its last position; add an air lock-up valve
to achieve three-break (power / signal / air) position retention.
Compared with a conventional mechanical force-balance positioner,
the digital platform adds advanced self-diagnostics and near-zero
steady-state air consumption. A wear-free non-contact position
sensor and adjustable exhaust damping prevent valve/disc fluttering
under high differential pressure, while the microprocessor PID loop
holds ±0.3% F.S. repeatability, linearity and hysteresis. Explosion
protection: Ex db IIC T6 Gb (flameproof); functional safety: IEC
61508 SIL 3; ingress protection: IP66.
When the positioner has no fault locking function, if the on-site
process wants to realize the valve position preservation under the
conditions of power failure, gas stop and signal cut-off, it must
be externally connected with the power-off comparator, solenoid
valve and air lock valve. At present, Fish, azbil, Siem and other
locators adopt this method.
Torleo intelligent valve positioner, with advanced i/p air circuit
design and built-in fault locking function, does not need an
external power-off comparator and solenoid valve. It can easily
realize the three break protection of the valve by connecting an
external air lock valve, which not only saves the investment of
users, but also improves the reliability of the system. In
particular, for general cylinders, the pneumatic amplifier can be
cancelled.

Field Engineering Notes
Real-world field experience — an intelligent positioner has to earn
the name in the field, not on the datasheet. In our long experience
serving process-industry customers worldwide, and from our recent
project data, the three problems that most degrade valve control
are: (1) packing stiction and mechanical hysteresis at low travel; (2) pneumatic lag — dead time and volume delay between the positioner relay and a
large actuator; and (3) high-frequency pipeline vibration that keeps the plug/disc oscillating and wears the trim. Our
digital (microprocessor) platform attacks all three inside the
control loop instead of bolting on hardware: a self-adapting PID
algorithm continuously re-tunes around the stiction dead-band; a
fast-acting nozzle-baffle pilot with adjustable exhaust damping
shortens pneumatic lag and suppresses fluttering; and full
self-diagnostics flag sensor drift, valve-signature change and
faults before they become trips. At steady state the unit holds a
near-zero instrument-air consumption, cutting air cost, and it
stores configuration, trends and valve-signature data for
predictive maintenance. Recommended air supply: 1.4–6 bar,
oil-free, moisture-free and dust-free.
